During this season we have managed to operate two boat handling courses over two separate weekends. Enabling us to have a further 5 new boat handlers in our club.
The practical sessions started with familiarisation of the RIB, equipment and safety features on board.
Then followed by owning, towing, launching and recovery of a vessel before engaging in high and low speed driving.
Certain manoeuvres must be learned and all completed these skills with great enthusiasm. Giving us confidence in their ability to handle the boat.
The theory sessions included rules of the road, navigation and Voyage planning.
The last thing on that list now after passing their course is probably the most important item of them all, that is to get out on the water and practice, practice and practice.
This now means that more than half of our club members now hold a boat handling certificate.
Two of our members have decided to increase their knowledge further by participating in the diver coxswain skill development course.
